Got a D3

1 Replies, 1270 Views

Recently I found a local buyer selling a new inbuilt d3 kit for cheap so I bought it. Now I have ordered a few parts for it, wide cvds, front one way, belt tensioner, rerar aluminum bearing housing, from what I was told that's what I need to upgrade the ?it to remove its flaws. Am I missing anything else and also are there any things I should look out for when building the kit?

I am on the same boat. Bought the D3s when they came out 18mths ago & ignored till today.
Only recently dug them out again, made a shopping list & the hopups now in transit.

If I were to build another D3 tomorrow...

Buy a good hex driver. You don't want to be using Allen keys, it'll murder your fingers.

Buy a 3mm tap to cut the thread into the hard plastic before putting screw in.

Kit shock oil.. wierd spec, stingy amt. Meh just bin it & use your own of known grade.

Kit springs are rubbish, get something more suited.

My hopups list is much like yours, I'm avoiding doing fullhouse carbon for D3s.
But the plastic shock towers are flexy... I'm going CF on those.

Kit plastic body shocks can be built to work quite well, TRF seals etc fit.
I did come across a 3Rac pack of just 4 alu bodies so I grabbed some to try.

Stock CS% might not suit you, get some extra pulleys if you wanna change.
Alu pulleys might give your belts an easier life.

The longer-armed alu steering rack should give more lock too,
I'm giving that a shot. Stock plastic goes to about 45deg but more is needed.

You need to buy a pinion too, if you're starting fresh. 48dp go 18 or 19t
