My D3 Center pulley tensioner fix

7 Replies, 3615 Views

Hey Just thought I'd share my fix for the D3 Center pulley tension problem some people experience. This problem effected me especially when I was running a 4.5T Motor as the belt slipped so much it almost had no teeth left within a day. I know there is a aluminum hopup for the rear bearing with a tensioner but finding it online seems to be harder than finding out the facts of life. If anyone has one for sale or knows where to get one I would appreciate it greatly!

Thansks mate I wasnt sure how to embed them this is my first post. Beleive me I tried a thousand different ways with a thousand different solutions and this is the only one that actually fixed my problem completely. I had to adjust the front bearing holders for the front diff once I'd tensioned the belt I'm assuming because it pulled the drive shaft pin forward and the belt on the front diff was slipping. Other than that and the fact I had to drill a hole through the top deck this has worked without incident so far. Hope this helps anyone still experiencing the problem
well the new rear alloy pulley holder for the d3 comes with a tensioner built in.. i did a different solution for my D3... i converted mine to RWD.. i incorporated a tensioner into this setup... but i kinda like your idea too.. great job again on it.. and welcome to the site.. introduce yourself man..

Theres not much to say the D3 is the first car I've ever built and I only got into this stuff about a month or two ago.. Honestly I'm all car and no skill I still suck at drifting I spend more time fiddling with the car than anything.. But I'm just tryna learn everything I can about it so I can make the adjustments I want to get the results I want.

Damn thats some modding. I'm confused as to why the suspension springs are going over the top and out to the chassis. Can you post more pics of your build, looks funky as I'm curious

Nice. Did you know MST have virtually the same tensioner for their FS chassis?

Just thought I would throw that in there if people are hunting for one.

The tensioner i used is meant to be for the rear diff but I got a second one and used it to tension the center belt because I got sick of hearing that annoying sound when the belt slipped. Can confidently say with many many hours of tweaking and headaches my d3 does not slip at all at any speed.. except if i go from high rpm to low to high really quickly in quick succession, but i think that is almost unavaoidable.
