RE-Xtreme DP Spec "R"

Time for some "R"WD drift.

this project starts with a Ketsukaki Yokomo Drift Package
minus the front drive = DP "R" for rear drive.

This Cheap drift package was my stating point.
It had FCD1.5x gearset and one way, which became spares for my other Drift Package. The 10 deg Yokomo castor blocks and DPM knuckles will also become spare.

I carved out the front box and redesigned the steering support because it's just a support.

I have Type C front suspension to be installed with my Kazama knuckles
I've ordered Wrap up next lower Y arms,
TN Racing lower arm extensions,
TN racing Upper arm pin holders
to replace the front

but for now, I'm testing a type B front.

Team suzuki type 2 steering arms extended with Team suzuki damper stays

I made a custom steering rack for more sweep

So I ended up with generous angle.

Next I'll be trying a few things like reversing the castor blocks to get KPI and a smaller scrub radius.

Rear has received an Active Link suspension setup on the type B rear. This will stay.
I really wanted this for my SSG chassis but the links will not clear the top deck so i went with team suzuki arms.

It's an awesome piece of kit but takes care in assembly.

uncompressed has my camber setting.

compressed... gets the full contact patch under power (might need to adjust the body though.)

I already have another set of Yokomo rc926 hybid shocks to go on this already.

Due to adding a full metal jacket to my DIB, I don't have much hobby cash at the moment, so this may take a while to complete, but I'm looking forward to some Rear 2 Wheel Drive Drift in the future.
The custom steering mods are great. The rwd project is def. starting off on the right foot!

Ill be using your link setup as reference when I finish up mine :p

Yokomo Type-C - RWD
Wrap-Up Next FR-D - RWD
nicely done.. love that steering mod.. looks great..

makes me regret selling my stock dp='(
Great work Russ. I look forward to your updates on this build. I do wonder about the modification on the front diff casing. Whats the purpose? weight reduction?

front diff case mod...
there was a ridge that interfered with steering wipers. so thats functional.
but it's just empty space.
I want to show there's no gears. there's no point having a case when it's not needed.

just aesthetics really.
Ahhh ,i see what you mean. I Thought maybe you were planning on filling the space with weights to make the front heavier, using it as a compartment for ballast. And yes theres no need for a front diff case since your goal is RWD. Thanks for clearing that up. Keep us updated. Im very excited to see your progress on this DP type-R.

also for KPI... these look promising:

Would you happen to have a video of you using it. I would love to see how it works out.

no videos of a car without a motor.

KPI.. kazama knuckles have 4 positions on the top and bottom of the knuckle.
so you can add positive or negative king pin incline.

I test drilled a set of lower arms for this, but I need to go a bit further.

Maybe I'll retry soon.

I have the yokomo knuckles without the kpi on my SSG Drift package.
These new ones look good because they also have another ball anchor hole close the the hub itself.

But I won't be changing. too many projects.

Today I swapped some parts for a test.

Check the difference.

I had to swap the bumper plate for clearance. I added Alloy DRB rear hubs.

I am not to worried about gearing right now. It's still got the stock spur and 1.5 FCD gears so it bites hard.

I tired this wheels until I realised they were my display tyres... haha

I changed to my real ones and things got slower and easier.

I played with weight position and springs, but I need to change over these shocks for some spares I have.

the normal length drift package spring seats don't match my current spring allocation.

but all in time...

stay tuned for video.
