I know hpi offers adjustable shocks at $40 a pair (2) for the E10, I was wondering if there's a cheaper alternative if not some that are better for around that price ? Im looking for the best bang for the $. Every thing HPI I always feel like your paying for the name, I could be wrong...

I wouldn't bother... E10 has weird shock design, won't fit anything else.

Save your $$ for another chassis.
don't spend $80 on HPI shocks...for an E10 none-the-less.
my advice would be learn what you can (the basics) with the E10 then get a real hobby grade chassis. unless you have some kind of sentimental attachment to the E10 or plan on going crazy custom and building your own upgrade parts for it, you'll quickly realize it's very limited and not worth spending money upgrading.
You definitely pay for the HPI name & the shock upgrade definitely isn't worth the $80. They do provide a nice handling difference over the stock ones, but using it as a test car without upgrading will leave you much happier with your eventual decision to purchase a new chassis, if you do become serious about competition or realism in your rc drifting.
