  New to 10th Scale Drifting
Posted by: pigpottomus - 04-09-2017, 12:57 AM - Forum: Introductions - No Replies

Hey all! Currently have a HPI Sprint 2 in parts on my table, to clean and get upgrades for. Originally had wanted to get a Sakura D4 RWD, but decided not to... I have other 10th Scale RC's (All Losi's) but always wanted to get a drifter since I was in Middle school. The only RC's that I've drifted was my Losi XXX SCT on waxed floors, and a few AWD Radioshack XMODS. I've been in the RC hobby pretty much since I was a kid, but didn't get an actual Hobby Grade RC till a few years ago, where I picked up my current Losi XXX SCT. Other than that, I'm looking forward to learning more! :D

RC Drift Room work in progress
Posted by: Dhulsedrift99 - 04-01-2017, 01:43 PM - Forum: Work-in-Progress - Replies (1)

I recently started on working a room in my house where I can do RC drifting. I got these carpet tiles off Ebay for only $7 a tile, I originally ordered 60 tiles, but I got 40 tiles because they were running low, so the other 20 will be coming in as soon they get new shipments of them. These carpet tiles work amazing for drifting, and I love them. They have a Automotive/speaker box, outdoor style fabric carpet on top of a 5/8" thick foam construction helps insulate against sound. Each carpet tile is 2'x2', and the room I need to cover with these tiles are 12'x16'. I still have some old furniture in the room, but I'll be getting them out of the room so I can have more room to drift in. If you guys are interested in buying these carpet tiles so you can start your own rc drift room, or use these instead of using rolled up carpet, I'll be putting a link to these as soon they get these new shipments in.  Foam construction helps insulate against sound Foam construction helps insulate against soundFoam construction helps insulate against sound

  Cc-01 rwd drifter
Posted by: Transient1 - 03-31-2017, 08:50 AM - Forum: Tamiya - Replies (9)

Hi all!!! I'm fairly new to this website...but not new to drifting; ive been drifting in and off since 2007! :)
Ive had my Cc01 drifter for about 3yrs now and have decided to completely restore it...its been in the closet for about 5 months bc i broke it...

Ive purchased about $150 in new parts back into this rebuild(didn't even cost that much brand new!); ive purchased rubber drifting tires(along with my old yokomo's) a pandora body(im not big into painting but im getting better), yeah racing tritronic esc, and e few other things that i can't remember...

Some of my original upgrades to this kit(and are going back on) are; steel diff, aftermarket 4link, aftermarket driveshaft, TRF aluminum threaded body shocks, Customworks spring assortment(10 different weights), aluminum servo mount, extra-long servo arm, adjustable camber links...custom steering rack, and custom front suspension mounts(it ain't pretty but it works perfectly)

I also ordered a battery tray bc you have to mount the battery centerline and down the back instead of sideways as in stock form...it also lifts a lot of weight off the front as this thing is quite heavy in the front bc of the center mounted electronics and motor...

Now i'm just waiting on all the new goodies to arrive...!!!

Anyone else tried or have this as a drifting platform? Ive seen it done before...but underneath the thing looked like frankenstien...

  Gyro help

Hey guys I have a rwd sprint 2 flux, I installed a onisiki gyro and when I drive straight the wheels go crazy like it can't decide to go left or right. I'm running a savox Sc 1251 mg. I even tried a futaba bls451 and it was worse it did it when the car wasn't moving. Also I noticed that the servo only goes crazy when connected to the steering, it seems to react normal (I'm just looking at the steering horn move) when disconnected from steering. Thanks in advance

  Internal gear ratio
Posted by: littlemonsta - 03-27-2017, 09:29 PM - Forum: Help Section - Replies (10)

Hi need some help with understanding what internal ratio does and what it means.
Does this affect the handling of the car or how it responds ?

For example, I can achieve a FDR of 12. If internal ratio is 3 and external ratio 4. Would there be a difference in handling the car with an internal ratio of 2 and external ratio of 6 ?

  Want to try RC drifting
Posted by: Chonker - 03-23-2017, 02:15 PM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (1)

I  used to race RC buggies when I was a kid, had a Schumacher Cougar 2000 that I broke god knows how many front wishbones on!  After a long while away from RC I'm thinking of getting myself a drift car to tool about with in the car park at work during my lunch break.

I'm looking for some advice, I think I have decided that the Sakura D4 AWD is the chassis I want, I'm looking forward to building a kit again.  I've got my eye on a Zakspeed capri bodyshell but it's 190mm wide and for a 251mm wheelbase where the D4 is listed as 180mm wide with a 255mm wheelbase.  Is that going to look awful?  Can you run wheel spacers to fix the width?

NEW GUY HELP!!! Sakura D3 CS
Posted by: Viper Th Sniper - 03-23-2017, 08:29 AM - Forum: Help Section - Replies (8)

Hey all,

I am the ONLY guy in my area trying this drifting that I know of. I always want the most challenging stuff. I have flown planes, Helicopters, drones and raced cars. But this drifting is kicking my but..

The ONLY track I have available is an indoor "foam" track, It is made up of those soft floor tile puzzles most people use in their garage. It is slick as concrete though..

My issue is simply getting around the track. I have played with the car to the best of my knowledge and what I have found online. But the thing still oversteers like CRAZY. I have dialed down the throttle to about 40% and EASY it on to get going straight. as soon as I turn the wheel or tap the gass I do a 180..  I am using a 6500 mah battery moved as far back as I can get it. I tried softer rear shocks and stiffer preload, I it made VERY little difference. I recently put the rubber type slicks on it from my sons Ken Block car. It seamed to help the most. I am sure this is a balance / setup issue. But I just don't know where to start.

If there is ANYONE in the Phoenix area at all, PLEASE contact me for help.

I am open to ANY AND ALL help at this point.

I do have the maxed out, all aluminum and carbon car with Brushless motor that can be found all over Ebay and Amazon. It looks pretty, But drives like.... Well, you get the idea..  I have read where the electronics are not the best. But I should be able to get this thing to drive and drift to some degree I would think.

Also, Not sure how to get the car to go in reverse very fast. It simply wont back up hardly at all.

I did install the one way hub in the front too. I read it is a MUST on this car. ????

Thanks in advance for everything..

  Rally suspension setup for drifter...
Posted by: Transient1 - 03-20-2017, 11:22 PM - Forum: Help Section - Replies (2)

I'm not new to rc or drifting... I'm currently looking into buying another drifter. I already have all the gear from my old tamiya cc01 rwd solid axle drifter... I was wanting to weigh pros and cons of scrub factors and stuff like that...the shocks i have are trf cc01 65mm...but i have about 10 different spring weights to play with...the lowest being 1.1 and the stock crawler springs are softer so i will be working with a lot of droop... Any input?

The angle is great but if it gose to the modded amount of steering it is very unstable and the steering rack gets loose. If anyone could help me out that would be amazing!

Theoretically speaking ,

How would any of these two ( http://www.hpiracing.com/en/kit/112862 / Sprint 2 Flux BMW M3 GTS ) - ( http://www.hpiracing.com/en/kit/106168 Sprint 2 Flux BMW M3 GT2 ) HPI cars compare on an indoor track to the RWD Sakura or YOKOMO RWD class if the HPI cars ( STOCK ) , were converted to RWD with no other major modifications with an exception to drift tires ?

Alternatively , how would the HPI cars handle with only a drift tire conversion and with NO RWD conversion against the Sakura or Kokomo on a track ?

This question is a theoretical one , i am new to the world of RC drifting and my knowledge on RC drifting cars , while expanding greatly daily , is still weak . Forgive me if my question seems stupid .

The reason for my question is to understand the basics of why HPI cars can't compete with products like RWD SAKURA and RWD YOKOMO , is it simply because of the RWD factor ?

Why couldn't i simply slap on some drift tires and convert the mentioned cars to RWD and outshine the other rides ?

Does it not work this way , am i missing something ?

Hope someone can help in educating me on the subject , thank you .

All advice and comments are welcome , I'm here to learn .

Thank You .

Can someone PLEASE explain to me why this car has 7 different prices , ranging from 269 Great British Pounds to 1800 Canadian Dollars which is CRAZY because 269 GBP does NOT = 1800 Canadian Dollars .

I also found the same car selling for 300 , 400 , 500 , 600 USD on Ebay for example !

What in the bloody HELL is going on , lol ?

Can someone please help out , this is confusing !!!

Additionally , if anyone knows ANYTHING about HPI , can someone please explain to me why the HPI website here claims to show the fastest SPRINT 2 FLUX http://www.hpiracing.com/en/kit/106168 , which is MUCH cheaper than the more expensive BMW M3 GTS shown here http://www.hpiracing.com/en/kit/112862 ?

How could the cheaper car be faster/better ?

Which one is older ?

Why doesn't HPI date products so we know what came out first , which could possibly help explain how a cheaper car model is better/faster than a more expensive car model ?

Finally , can anyone PLEASE tell me how any of the two mentioned HPI BMWs would compare to say the Sakura D4 or equivalent from other brands ?

Thank You for your time ...
