  REDCAT Lightning-EPX-DRIFT Anyone ?
Posted by: madeinjapandad - 03-14-2017, 11:53 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (5)

I was wondering if anyone has ever driven or owned the REDCAT LIGHTNING EPX DRIFT ?

http://www.redcatracing.com/Lightning-EPX-DRIFT

I have a few questions in regards to this make , hope someone knows a thing or two about it !

1) How does the REDCAT Lightning EPX DRIFT compare to say the HPI RS4 DRIFT SUBARU SPORT 3 4WD
( http://www.ebay.com/itm/HPI-Racing-1-10-...1259366085 )

2) Many claim this REDCAT to be the best RTR for its price in the market , which i believe , however i am very suspicious of its performance ability , and id like to know , how would one compare it to lets a Sakura D4 or D3 or MST drift models for example . If anyone has any idea , id extremely curious to find out !

3) If you've ever driven the LIGHTNING EPX DRIFT , how would you compare it to any other drifters you've also driven ?

Thank You .

Battle of the RC brands :

This question is directed at those with track experience , along with a well rounded general knowledge in drifting .

Between a Stock Sakura D4 RWD VS Stock Yokomo Y-D2 RWD , which one is better for drifting indoors and why ?

Does the MST-FXX-D revised edition or REDCAT equivalent have anything on the YOKOMO Y-D2 or Sakura D4 in terms of stock out of the box conditions ?

If i handed you an envelope with 700 USD in it to purchase a drift car for a close friend of yours to get into the sport , what is the 1 drifting car you would purchase ?

If i handed you an envelope with 500 USD in it to purchase a drift car for a close friend of yours to get into the sport , what is the 1 drifting car you would purchase ?

If i handed you an envelope with 300 USD in it to purchase a drift car for a close friend of yours to get into the sport , what is the 1 drifting car you would purchase ?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

According to my observations and research of the RC drifting community I would describe the Sakura line of products as the hottest items out in the market , I've found extremely mixed reviews for the MST brand but i really like the RTR choices , REDCAT has some competitive prices , especially in the under 500 USD range . I'd like to hear from you the RC community in regards to my questions above , and any general opinions you have on the latest RC drifting models out in the market today .

I know there are some brands i missed , id love to hear about them too , so far my research has only included the brands mentioned above .

Thank You all for your time .

I Look forward to hearing anyones opinions , all opinions are welcome .

  Sakura D4 Drivers Update
Posted by: madeinjapandad - 03-14-2017, 09:59 PM - Forum: 3 Racing - Replies (5)

This question is directed at Sakura D4 drivers ,

We all know the ( D4 VS Y-D2 ) discussion has been had before , but overtime , experiences change and flaws begin to show , most reviews of this subject online are now outdated as its 2017 . How has your experience with the D4 been , was it worth it , have you been to the track and found something better you wish you purchased instead ?

Would you purchase the D4 again if you could go back in time , or would you purchase something else ?

Would you recommend the D4 over the Y-D2 ?

Has anyone driven both the D4 and the Y-D2 , do you have any other observations ?

Have you been out on the track and noticed any other drifters that were outperforming you in stock mode ?

I would really appreciate any advice , thank you .

Top RWD RTR on the Market
Posted by: madeinjapandad - 03-14-2017, 09:32 PM - Forum: Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) - Replies (1)

I'm about to purchase my first (indoor) drift car , I'm going with a RWD , before i make my final choice I wanted to get some expert opinions .

If you had 1000 USD in your pocket right now to purchase your first drift RWD car , what would it be  ?

Please note :

It MUST be RTR from the box .

I prefer Yokomo and Sakura but unfortunately choices of RTR are limited and always missing something that must be purchased separately or there is always something to assemble .

Anyone with any suggestions , even its simply the name of product or link , no need for details , please leave a reply .

I thank you all for your time .

P.S

I have researched the MST FXX-D RTR , https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnBSB9FzERE , it was a top contender until i found out that the Unrevised version , version 1 , had some issues and MST went cheap on some parts in the car itself .

  Embarrassing NOOB Questions
Posted by: madeinjapandad - 03-13-2017, 08:57 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (10)

Dearest driftmission forum users ,

Please bear with me as i ask this most embarrassing question on behalf of every NOOB who has ever wanted to ask this question but couldn't muster up the courage to do so !

We all know what 4WD and 2WD drive represents , but whats the deal with this CS ?

I understand that it represents a Countersteer , and i understand the concept of countersteering itself but how does that relate to the actual RC car in terms of purchase ?

How do you know if the RC car you want to purchase has the ability to counter steer ?

To accomplish Countersteering, is it something you setup or tune parts of the RC to accomplish or does your car either either have CS ability or doesn't ?

Do most drift cars have the ability to countersteer ?

What is the main detail to look for in order to factor if a drift car can Countersteer ?

Do 2wd such as the MST FXX-D REVISED EDITION countersteer ?

Do 4wd such as the REDCAT Lightning EPX PRO countersteer ?

Do all RC drift cars that are not 50/50 countersteer ?

How do you know if the car is a 50/50 , CS , 4WD , 2WD , If the details aren't available in SPEC sale items details ?

Can a drift car be 2wd and CS ?

Can a drift car be 4WD and CS ?

I am fully aware of the dozens of threads explaining this , however i remain confused due to the pointless youtube clips explaining the differences which only further confused me .

I hope someone can do the NOOBS of the world a favour and help in a definitive explanation of the subject in simple terms .

Hope someone can help out ! Thank You !

P.S :

I'm asking because i plan on purchasing one of the two models listed above in my post and I'm not sure if the EPX PRO or the MST FXX-D can Countersteer ; hence my question and the subsequent confusion .

I Apologise for the question but for NOOBS who are overwhelmed with research and tons of new information sometimes even the simplest of concepts can become confusing .

  NEW 2 RC DRIFTING
Posted by: madeinjapandad - 03-13-2017, 08:13 PM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (5)

Hi everyone , Im Phil , new here and hoping to get some advice on a few subjects . I'm impressed by the amount of information found on driftmission and the maturity of the thread users ; i I hope someone can help me out .

To begin let me get right into what I need help with :

I'm simply looking for an RTR Drifter with serious capabilities in terms of Drifting , low maintenance is a MUST , price is not an issue on this one , we only live once .

I'm truly finding it very difficult to build a consensus on what the best RTR options are seeing as how most RC manufacturers have so many different products and we the consumers have so many different opinions . Ive been doing my own research for about a year now ( RC purchase delayed due to our new born and travel ) , and I'm ready to purchase my first RC Drifter ; I've got my mind set on 1 of 2 RTR models , here they are and I kindly request any advice from those of you have experience in helping out those who are new to RC drifting .

1) MST FXX-D RTR RWD NEW REVISION ( Nissan GTR Blue )

    PRICE : 400-500 USD

POSITIVE : Its got everything i want , RTR , Great Specs in my NOOB opinion , Price seems great .

NEGATIVE : Not sure if i'll be able to control this 2wd , control may be an issue and I've no clue how much maintenance is needed .

2)  REDCAT LIGHTNING EPX PRO - ( BRUSHLESS - LIPO3500 - 269 USD VERSION )

     PRICE : 269 USD

POSITIVE : Where should i begin ? The price seems too good to be true for the reputation it has, let alone its specs . Brushless , RTR . Im simply not sold because the price seems a little low . Am i missing something ? Perhaps i just read a few biased reviews and the EPX PRO is truly NOT as hype as its hyped up to be ?

NEGATIVE : Price seems too low , somethings up ? How could a drift car that costs 269 get higher ratings then rc touring and drift cars that cost twice as much ? Im perplexed by this , its disturbing , i must have missed something or the reviews I've read are simply biased and the EPX PRO is not as outstanding as some are making it out to be .

CONCLUSION :

I'm confused and I would like some advice , has anyone driven both these cars , which has less maintenance ? Are there any details that i should know about as to the two mentioned RC cars ? Anyone know which preforms better indoor ? Anyone know which one performs better outdoors ? Does anyone have any better recommendations for an RTR RC drift car for beginners ? Which is more durable ? Which one Drifts better ? If driving both indoors and outdoors which one would you purchase ?

I thank you all for your time , please feel free to advise me on another RC car if you feel its a more suitable RTR and has very low maintenance .

P.S

Not sure if i will be using an indoor track ( 30 min drive away ) or flat concrete outdoors in the my neighbourhood .

  Removing t-drift tyres?
Posted by: BambooSwordBa - 03-09-2017, 04:17 AM - Forum: Help Section - Replies (8)

I'm having trouble removing t-drift tyres from r2 hobby. I tried dipping them in hot water, didn't work. Boiling the wheels, didn't work.
The problem seems to be coming from the tyres as they have a bit of edge and lock themselves in to the rim.

I don't have the tyre installing/removing tool either.
When I installed it I boiled each tyre and step on it. Now I can't get it out.

Sakura carbin and aluminum ebay chassis
Posted by: Nu2drift - 03-08-2017, 03:32 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (4)

So i recently ordered the sakura D3 clone on ebay that im sure most of you have seen.. i ordered from ebay seller "flying-xys". I received the chassis with a damaged box, no oil in the shocks, screws that were halfway screwed in, and so much slop in the ball ends that it takes no effort to pop them off.... all of which ive heard horror stories about frim other purchasers of this chassis... but what really has me "upset" for lack of using profanity, is that the carbon fiber chassis is warped and twisted so badly that only 3 wheels touch the ground... ive contacted this seller, he has responded asking for pictures so i sent them, he responds back and tells me that it is the droop screws that are causing this!!! I explained to him thay it most certainly was NOT the droop screws because i can flip the chassis over and the damn shock towwrs dont even sit properly on the surface of my table, but this pwrson has yet to respond to me regarding any type of compensation or warranty if the chassis.... it is literally JUNK!!! Not good for anything but a paperweight... and this seller sewms to not want to do anything to try to make it right... so to all of you out there.. STAY AWAY from the carbon and aluminum sakura D3 clone on ebay, and even more so, STAY AWAY from seller "flying-xys" they will do NOTHING to take care of a problem. Even if it involves you not being able to enjoy what youve purchased from them!!

  MOTOR HELP (Sakura d4)
Posted by: Millsicorn - 03-07-2017, 08:15 PM - Forum: Electronics - Replies (3)

I just finished assembling my Sakura D4 and put all the electronics in. With the battery charged, I turned on the car and binded to my transmitter. After reversing channel 1 so my steering worked, I tried the throttle. The motor started turning but never gave me much throttle at all. The car moved at very slow speeds and it was obvious that something was wrong. I am running the "Gool Rc" brushless combo from amazon.(which I plan to upgrade later if I feel the need).

  New to RWD
Posted by: Gramps50 - 03-05-2017, 10:53 AM - Forum: Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) - Replies (5)

I started drifting about a month ago. Started by doing donuts around trash can lids, progressed to figure 8's. Now been doing donuts and figure 8's around some cones. Been to the local drift track (carpet) several times with varied success. Which bring me to my point I want to venture into RWD so I will be getting a Yokomo YD2 in the next couple of days. When it's built I will be ready to wet my feet with RWD. My question is how do I start? From the beginning doing donuts, then on to figure 8's or is there a better way?

Hello everyone.
I have an MST Fxx-D RTR and have bought the Pipes BFU 2.0. I am running a Futaba 3PV transmitter and receiver. For whatever reason the BFU is only working when brake is engaged and held or in reverse and the brake lights are only active when under forward throttle. I have reversed channel 2 and still am getting the same results. I have tried 3 different BFU's with the same results. Can anyone help with advise to correct this?

Thank you!

  Steep Learning Curve?
Posted by: Dripp_e - 03-01-2017, 10:08 AM - Forum: Help Section - Replies (3)

New to RC Drift, not to the hobby of RC. I come from a offroad background, mostly bashing, some racing. I've built a Sakura D4 CS and have been trying to learn to drift, with varied levels of success. I went to my first event last week and I really had a hard time drifting the course without spinning, understeering, or crashing. I know I had some pretty aweful tires which could be part of the problem. I had trouble getting a consistent drift or linking corners. Car has massive understeer on entry and in drift. I was also told I should convert to RWD and learn that instead of bothering with CS.

short story long, is the learning curve that steep? Does setup play that big a role? Help a newb out. I run on carpet.

Setup for reference:
D4 AWD
Yeah racing Gyro
Bluebird Servo
13.5 T Brushless sensorless running on 2s
Yokomo Super Drift Tire Zero One R2 (I have some MST Silver dot on order)
3 Racing Front one way diff
Flysky radio and reciever

Help with fitting a 200mm wide body on my Sakura D3
Posted by: Nu2drift - 03-01-2017, 02:01 AM - Forum: Countersteer Setups - Replies (5)

Im wondering if anyone can help me with a dilemma... i recenrly purchased a sakura D3 chassis and i wanted to stay with rhe pink anodized theme on the wheels. So i searched and searched for a set with a pretty deep offset and the most i could find was only 3mm!! To add to the mayhem i bought a 200mm body to go on this chassis, so now im trying to see if anyone here has dealt with putting a 3mm offset wheel with a 200mm width body, and what width of hex hub they had to use to male this work?
By my calculations, if the stock width is 190mm with a +5mm offset wheel, and the wheels i got are only 3mm, then that brings it down to 186mm. So if i need to get to 200mm then i would have to compensate 14mm total (or 7mm per side) in order to achieve the 200mm total width... does anyone know offhand whay thickness the stock hex hubs are so i can add the 7mm to it and get that thickness of hex hub?!! Please help!

First time purchasing a brush less system, Does this look right?
Posted by: santafe17 - 02-27-2017, 02:49 PM - Forum: Help Section - Replies (4)

So, I have a Tamiya TT-02 type S.

I plan to drift it as well as drive it with grip tires. so it's sort of a dual purpose basher.

I'm not trying to win or even enter races here, I just want to go faster than the motor that came with it.

I THINK I've settled on a good combo here, but I would LOVE some veteran opinions..

the question - Are these two going to work together?

https://hobbyking.com/en_us/trackstar-10...roved.html

https://hobbyking.com/en_us/hobbykingr-t...-1-12.html

And my second question, Do you know of something better at the same price point? my budget is a 100$ bill or less.
