whats up guys. im looking to get into rc drifting and ive been doing a lot of research. ive never done anything more advanced than an xmod(hahaha) when i was younger. after some research ive settled on a sakura for my first build based on them being relatively inexpensive, a good following and good amount of aftermarket parts, and ive heard its a good kit to learn on both for building and driving.

ANYWAY, my initial thought was to buy a d3 cs but i have found that the rwd is the favorite/standard now so i started looking into the d4 rwd. i then learned the d3 and d4 are discontinued (so the d3 i was looking at on amazon was probably a fake knockoff). This has all lead me to the the d4 sport black edition rwd. i just wanted to pick some brains about the new monoshock setup up front and to see how you guys would compare the overall quality to the regular d4 rwd. i realize ill probably have to buy a second hand standard d4 rwd if i decide to go that route which is a con for me because i was really looking forward to building my chassis and personalizing my build.

Like I said, i am brand new to this scene and would love to talk to someone about these 2 chassis and just rc drift in general. any advice or pro tips are MUCH appreciated.

thanks!

Well it's not much of a build yet since I won't be ordering the car for a few weeks, but I wanted to get some opinions on the build I'm planning for the d4.

This will be my first rwd drift car and hopefully the first drift car that I'll keep as a drift car for more than a month.

Anyways I was looking into the mst fxx-d ifs and the 3racing Sakura d4 rwd. After some research on here and online I've decided to go with the d4 obviously. Mostly because upgrades are cheaper and overall everything looks like it will be much easier to get here in the States vs the mst.

The build I'm planning on is to get the d4 rwd kit, aluminum ifs conversion (just because I get mesmerized by cantilever), active camber conversion, curved slide rack, and aluminum stock shocks. Electronics that I know of so far will be an airtronics 2 channel receiver (don't care about leds right now) and a savox low profile servo and some sensored brushless system.

It will get run on asphalt mostly, possibly on smooth concrete and occasional carpet as well.

Any suggestions on other parts to get?

Recently got a used D4 with Oxygen upgrades, not abused by former owner but needed a lot of TLC to get it to where it is right now. It's been about a week since i started cleaning and tuning her, still not close to where i want it to go.

After tunning a TT02 RWD, this belt system seems a tad slow in responses... gotta get me some usukani gear drive or the D4 upgrade. Which do you prefer using?

Recently got a used D4 with Oxygen upgrades, not abused by former owner but needed a lot of TLC to get it to where it is right now. It's been about a week since i started cleaning and tuning her, still not close to where i want it to go.
After tunning a TT02 RWD, this belt system seems a tad slow in responses... gotta get me some usukani gear drive or the D4 upgrade. Which do you prefer using?

This question is directed at Sakura D4 drivers ,

We all know the ( D4 VS Y-D2 ) discussion has been had before , but overtime , experiences change and flaws begin to show , most reviews of this subject online are now outdated as its 2017 . How has your experience with the D4 been , was it worth it , have you been to the track and found something better you wish you purchased instead ?

Would you purchase the D4 again if you could go back in time , or would you purchase something else ?

Would you recommend the D4 over the Y-D2 ?

Has anyone driven both the D4 and the Y-D2 , do you have any other observations ?

Have you been out on the track and noticed any other drifters that were outperforming you in stock mode ?

I would really appreciate any advice , thank you .

I just recently purchased a D4 rwd. Have built it up as to what I can without the electronics so far.

Compared to the team magic, the quality of parts seems rather poor.

Building the car was ok. However I made a few mistake putting the parts in the right way.
Besides that, it was easy to assemble. However the recommended tension setting in the manual was a little to high. Loosened this setting 1 step down.
I replaced the original hex adapters with alum disc brakes. In the end I had to remove the disc brakes in the front. It wasn't spinning as freely as it should be. I retained the rear disc brakes.

Front lock seems rather small. Increased lower arm about 6 mm on both sides. Added 3mm spacers to original 5mm hex. Front wheels still don't spin as smoothly. Brought out the wd40 and kinda fixed the smoothness somewhat. Will alum knuckles actually improve the spin ? Will get that later I guess.

Next steps is to get basic electronics for the car.

Anyone tried skyrc motor combo ? Looking at the 10t combo. Or should I just get speed passion r 10.5t.

Thinking of a cheap Sanwa servo to go with the car. Srg-cs

Will get the same gyro as my other car.

For now will reuse some older radio.

Just got a D3. How to run it reliably?

I just got an used D3. It came as rolling chassis with FOW.
After an inspection I found that it doesn't have rear belt tensioner but the previous owner simply raise the bulkhead housing so the tension is just right.
However centre belt is shaken like mad on full throttle. Other than this it doesn't appear to have any problem. No CVD chatter at full lock. Everything is smooth.

So I'm ordering these parts
- D3 belt tensioner. I only got one to support the centre belt. Should I get more for rear belt too?
- Belt set 138T, 519T and 186T as spare. I consider this consumable because it will wear out eventually. My current rear belt is 183T. Will this mean I really have to use tensioner?
- Aluminum hex wheel adapter 5mm
- New wheels. I just want a set of white wheels that's all.
What more do I need to have a reliable car without any potential breakage?

I'm running RacerStar 3900kV motor + 60A ESC and 5200mAh 2S battery that fits snugly in to the tray. I don't think I'll pull it out because it'll bend the top plate.
I only had a chance to run it for half a battery pack. My initial impression is this car is very easy to drive compare to my micro drifter (1/28 scale, 50:50).
I was expecting it to spin out because I read that 2.1 CS ratio maybe too much for beginner, which I consider that I'm one. This is my first 1/10 drift car after all.
I love how violent the rear kicks out and it only kicks out whenever I want to.

Here are some pics.
